Welcome to the 2024-25 school Year
It is back to school time again. A time to meet teachers and settle into new routines. We want to take some time to thank each of you for being part of The Reading Fairy family. We are thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your children in their journey into reading and writing.
Reading Fairy Mission
The mission of The Reading Fairy is to provide quality scientifically based reading instruction that is structured, systematic, and sequential as designed for students with dyslexia at an affordable rate. We believe that reading is a right and crucial for success and strive to help all clients achieve their maximum potential. We recognize that a child’s dyslexia/reading difficulties impact the entire family, so we strive to be an advocate for both the child and family.
What we do
We are here to help you; not only providing language therapy or reading intervention with your child, but as advocates for you and your child. We will provide written reports on your child’s progress as we move through the programs. We will attend ARD/IEP meetings with you to help make sure your needs are being met. We host webinars each month to provide you information about dyslexia, what we do, and ideas to help you help your child. We also send out monthly newsletters that provide information on specific topics related to dyslexia or the components of instruction we provide.

Brandy Kirven
Brandy Kirven is the founder and owner of The Reading Fairy. She became a CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) in 2020. A CALT is the highest level of certification available for persons working with dyslexia. She is an active member of ALTA (Academic Language Therapy Association), the professional association for CALTs. Brandy is a certified Texas teacher and spent her last several years in education as a dyslexia specialist. She is passionate about helping anyone with dyslexia since she has seen the impact of dyslexia within her own family. When she is not working, Brandy enjoys watching her sons play soccer, football, and other extracurricular activities, such as the competitive robotics team. She also enjoys relaxing with her family, cooking out, or spending time on ATVs.
Joanna Smith
Joanna Smith is a retired teacher with 34.5 years of public-school teaching experience. All but 2 of those years were focused on students with reading difficulties and dyslexia. She is an Academic Language Therapist through the Scottish Rite Hospital of Texas, prior to Take Flight and is waiting on the results from the CALT recertification exam. Her desire to help dyslexic students reach their full potential stems from watching family members and friends struggle as adults because their needs were not met in the public-school setting. She loves to hear from prior students and see what they are doing now, including doctors, vets, lawyers, writers, and business owners. When not working, Joanna enjoys reading, writing, and watching auto racing (NASCAR and dirt track). She has a spoiled dog named Xena. She also enjoys hanging out with her friends and her family.
Cady Smith
Cady Smith has taught for 9 years ranging from kindergarten to 2nd grade. She has a master’s degree in Learning Technologies and is a TIA designated teacher (Teacher Incentive Allotment), which is a Texas program that pays stipends to highly effective teachers based on student growth). She has also completed the Texas Reading Academy, a highly intensive year long course that requires teachers to become competent in teaching using Science of Reading standards. Cady strives to provide evidence-based instruction tailored to fit the specific needs of her students in order to help them reach their full potential as readers and writers.
